CARDIOTECHNIX

Technology has been essential for the advancement in cardiology diagnostic and treatment since the first accurate recording of the electrocardiogram and its development as a clinical tool in 1895, also the year of the discovery of X-rays by W.K.Röntgen, followed by ultrasound application for medical diagnosis by Dussik in 1941, and many other technologies. In the XXI century significant advances continue to be witnessed even more frequently and it seems evident that there is a very high potential of improving healthcare quality by combining medical knowledge in the area of cardiology with engineering technologies, especially those derived from communications, electronics and informatics.

The Future of ECG Monitoring
CardioID develops security, wellness and entertainment applications around cardiac signals using seamless sensing technology. Founded in 2014 out of research developed at Instituto de Telecomunicações and Instituto Superior Técnico, we present a patent-pending technology that allows the electrocardiogram (ECG) to be continuously acquired in a non-intrusive way using dry electrodes, conductive textiles and other materials. This technology, based on state-of-the-art Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning methods applied to the study of biosignals, enables the development of innovative products, with a particular focus on ECG-based biometrics. In this talk we will go through our short history to show the potential and future outreach of our technology in the area of physiological computing.

PLUX - Wireless Biosignals
The presentation will begin with a brief introduction of the company profile. Then we will cover what is the typical product development process from a service providing point of view at PLUX. Finally, we will talk about a successful case study developed in a partnership with Ficosa, the development of a drowsiness detection system that resulted in a cardiorespiratory wearable system. In the last minutes there will be time to clarify some doubts and answer some questions.
